Capital One bonus to EVA
This deserves its own section and I didn’t get a chance to share it last week. But there is about 10 days left to take advantage of Capital One’s 30% transfer bonus to EVA Air. I don’t know how well known this airline is, but it is one of Taiwan’s three major international airlines (EVA, China Airlines, and now STARLUX). You can book a one-way US-Taiwan business class flight on EVA for 83k Capital One miles with this bonus. So this obviously makes the 30% bonus from Capital One super helpful, especially if you want to get to Asia. View the award chart on EVA’s site here or see chart below.

The math
Before bonus, points transfer at 4:3 rate, but through July 31, it is almost 1:1 (1,000:975). EVA has a lot more saver space on their own program vs. other partners and you can book a saver business award for 75k (West Coast) or 80k (Central US and East Coast) EVA Miles. To calculate the number of Capital One miles needed, you divide by the number of EVA miles needed by 0.975. So to get 80k EVA miles, you would do (80k/0.975)= 82,051 miles. But you have to round up to the nearest thousands. So 83k miles needed.
EVA’s website is a bit confusing to use.
So EVA’s site kind of gives early 2000s vibes and functionality, so it can be a bit confusing to figure out how to use EVA’s website to book an award. I also think you also have to email or fax a form to be able to “unlock” the availability to book an award online as well. Luckily I did that myself a few years ago.

Check it out here. If you think it’s worth the trouble, definitely check it out! I already booked a flight for my mom on the new IAD-TPE route using my Capital One miles as well! They provide world-class service, great food & drink ($200+ champagne in business class + lobster meals?? yes please), and I am biased but I love Taiwan and think Taipei is a place to also visit if you are thinking about Japan.

Deal of the week
Here are some select dates and destinations to fly saver business class between North America and Spain (MAD). Cities I highlight include Boston, New York (EWR/JFK), Chicago, DC (IAD), and Toronto.
Some late summer availability if you fly between Chicago and Madrid.
Also most availability is in June-July 2027 but some sporadic dates in late 2026 to early 2027. The dates I highlight have 2 saver seats available with the exception of Chicago in July-August 2026 where there are up to 9 seats.
