The deal

In honor of France vs. Morocco playing today, here are some last-minute summer business class deals to France or Morocco. You can fly Air Canada business class from Montreal (YUL) to various cities in France (Lyon, Nantes, Toulouse) and also to Morocco (Casablanca). These flights are around ~65-66k points in business class each way and appear to only be bookable through Air Canada’s Aeroplan program.

There’s also some availability to other European destinations including Porto, Portugal and Venice, Italy. Sadly, Ronaldo is out of what was likely his last World Cup (although I could see Portugal calling him up in 2030 on the bench due to being a host nation) and Italy hasn’t participated since 2014 😆😆!!

Quirks of the deal

This deal obviously works best if you are based out of Montreal or can position to Montreal. You can also book these awards for ~75k points each way out of select US cities. But Air Canada’s routing rules are annoying and don’t make it easy for a US-YUL-XXX routing. They want you to fly US1→US2→YUL→XXX for 75k points or charge a lot more for what logically is the easy routing. See below for example.

If you want to fly Chicago to Casablanca on August 6, Air Canada wants you to fly ORD→CMH→YUL→CMN, and it will cost 75k points. Logically, I would think that means you could book CMH→YUL→CMN for 75k points as well, a nice deal for the people in the great state of Ohio!

But wait! If I search CMH-CMN on the same day (August 6), Air Canada wants 121.6k miles for the CMH→YUL→CMN flight… Ugh!!! And no, you can’t just book from ORD and not get on at ORD and get on at CMH instead Your ticket will be 99% likely to be cancelled.

Currently, these routes are on Air Canada’s newer A321XLR in a 1-1 layout or a 787 with a 1-2-1 layout. Regardless of plane type, the seats are lay-flat and all have direct aisle access.
